There are many ancestral
atavisms which can be magickally tapped to go some way toward understanding and
harnessing the totality of the psychic field generated by all living beings on
this planet. It is an otherworld, what once appeared terrifying becomes a place
enlightening, luminous in its truth and honesty, a place of contemplation and
supreme bliss.
I first encountered the sigil of Baphomet in the standard, entry
level-LaVey’s Satanic Bible. Also the “as above-so below” image on literally
hundreds of extreme metal album covers. Later I learnt from Giger’s
Necronomicon that it was Eliphas Levi who instigated the resurrection of this
obscure daemon apparently popular amongst the Knights Templar. Giger’s Baphomet
is arguably psychonautically sublime and serves as a pathway for the
post-modern magician into what it means to practice the occult in the
twenty-first century. Baphomet is arguably the word for God in the magician’s
argot?
As a sorcerer I stoop not down with the dross of matter, I
inhabit the cracks and hollows, the dweller on the threshold where there is a
place for our divine image in a realm ever-splendent. I use as my modus operandi,
the Visualisation of subconscious weaponry (sigils) or that of spirit animal
form. I am many things. Varg, Serpent of Eve, acolyte of Thoth and herder unto
Goats. This force has existed for aeons and has took the form of the Horned
God, Pan, Shiva/Kali, The Triple Goddess or Cernunnos, the Horned One, Celtic
God of the Underworld and the Astral Planes .
The symbol of the adept is Baphomet, the magicians god,
hermaphroditic, all-destroyer inherited by us from the shamanic aeon .The
mysteries of creation, the dragon, Tiamat, oroborous, curling its form as
knowledge around the universe, biting its own tail. Our planet is but a grain
of sand on the beach of the cosmos-yet we do generate energy through our will
and life force. We have only just begun to realise our sentience…
